Nicholas Kirkwood Lace-Up Floral-Print Silk Ankle Boots
So. Nicholas Kirkwood. Brilliant. An artist as much as a designer, if not more so. You may have seen another version of the Lace-Up Floral-Print Silk Ankle Boots ($835.99 at Saks) he did for Erdem here before, but in a decidedly different design. This one is like a watercolor painting to me. I’ll follow that theme some more in a minute, but first let me just gush a little more. This man is seriously the cat’s pajamas, and I hope to see lots more of him in the future. The German born designer (hot – actually, he really is) is only 30 years old, and he’s already designed for many of the big names. In addition to Erdem, he’s designed for Ghost, Rodarte, John Rocha, and Pollini.
Nicholas Kirkwood has been praised for his architectural eye and his aesthetic, both of which are only getting better with time. He’s got the three A’s down: architecture, aesthetics, and a highly artistic flair. All of those aspects come together beautifully in these boots. To me they honestly look like a canvas laid over the silhouette of the shoe, they look like the original work of art is hanging in a museum somewhere.
Although the motif is floral, up close some of the detailing looks like the fanning tails and fins of some kind of beautiful, exotic koi fish. I love that it keeps you guessing, and I love the way the colors work together. The shades of red, turquoise, purple, and orange blend so gorgeously, the design is absolutely exquisite.
The heel is 5 inches even, it has a ¾ inch platform, and the sole is made of rubber, so these boots are actually highly functional, especially in winter, as well as fashionable. Oh Santa, please, please, please!
P.S. Saks has these on sale now, marked down from $1,195!
